Platypus training kayaks

BATs with pointy ends: not for going places but learning and practice. Length 329cm, beam 57cm, integrated cockpit. For paddlers 175cm, 70kg or less. The fleet was built at a time when I was involved with SACE Year 12 Kayaking and other courses.

Platypus 5

04 Original hull and cockpit rim, with retractable fin. Good condition $100

Platypus 6

07 (blue) was new build with the straight-running hull, is in good condition and has footpump, as shown below. $100

05 (green) was converted from Mk 5 by being rehulled and is in reasonable condition.$60

Both have the original short cockpit rim.

Voyager 4

Voyager 4 seagoing double, length 607cm, beam 71cm, integrated cockpits (with low-capacity foot pumps), retractable fin. As paddled by Malcom and Jim to King Island, Peter and Grant Glenelg to Port Vincent, Peter and Mark to Althorpe Island, and Graham and Trevor for the flooding experiment... $150

M81 Slalom kayak

Kevlar hull. Fixed footrest removed, and pointed bow and stern shortened. For smaller paddlers who want to develop skills, and should still be legal under slalom rules. $100

Wenonah Recon whitewater canoe

One of the last Royalex boats, 4m long, with plenty of volume. With saddle, thigh straps and airbags. Not for going places, but for playing on moving water. In very good condition. Seen here with its storage trolley. $1200

Duck Flat Gecko

A 325cm canoe in the Wee Lassie tradition, built in 2018 as an exercise in stitch and glue construction. For smaller paddlers, and normally paddled seated with kayak paddle. $1000

Rotomoulded, with take-apart paddle and leash. V little use. Rugged, if heavy. $400

Flinders Ranges japara

How bushwalking tents used to be: cotton japara (leaks when touched on inside), no fly, separate groundsheet. With Al pole sections and wire pegs.

Two at a squeeze. Ridge pole cracked (shown pitched without), tent zips corroded, fly zip OK, fly ground loops perished. With poles and pegs.

Early Winters Pocket Hotel

A minimalist tent, for when space and weight are at a premium, or as an emergency shelter. Single layer Gore-Tex®, with glass fibre pole sections and four pegs. Shown pitched, as it normally was, on a V-sheet, with insect screen partly closed.

Eureka! Sixth Domension dome

An early dome tent, fits two. Solid glass fibre poles.

Tunnel tent, fits two. Three aluminium poles, tent and fly pitched together. With extra blue polytarp groundsheet and pegs.
